Lat Pull Downs Won't
|
||||||||||||||||
Long gone are the days where the ability to do pull ups |
If you can trace your lineage back far enough... I'm sure you will find a relative who saved his or her life with the ability to do pull ups.
Maybe it was a mountain man being chased by wolves who used his ability to do pull ups to climb a wall for safety.
Maybe it was a cavewoman who used her ability to do pull ups to climb a tree to gather pterodactyl eggs to feed her family.
I know it sounds silly, but it's probably true... you owe your existence to the ability to do pull ups.
Pull Ups... An Excellent Example Of
The Exercise - Survival Relationship
In the ancient world, only the strong survived.
Physical fitness was not something we did for fun, for appearance or because the doctor ordered... it was a necessary attribute if one was to survive.
Pull ups, which simulate the natural human movement of climbing, was one of the necessary physical abilities.
So what happened?
man society became... the less people attributed physical fitness with survival.
And pull ups fell by the wayside... being replaced by more civilized, easier exercises like the lat pull down.
I bet most of you don't view your physical training as a survival necessity, or view your inability to perform pull ups as life threatening... and that is a mistake.
(Do a search for "wolf attacks" or "bear attacks" and you will see what I mean!)
Don't be fooled by the futuristic machinery, space age monitors and designer water bottles... physical fitness, and the ability to do pull ups, is (and always will be) about survival.
Pull Ups Are Unequalled
I once saw a report which stated lat pull downs were better for building muscle than pull ups... but who cares how big your muscles are when your being chased by a bear!
Make no mistake about it... there is no substitute for pull ups.
Nothing will make you prouder and feel stronger than the ability to pull your chin over the bar over and over again.
If your pull up numbers are dismal, or you can't even do one, I suggest reading The Naked Warrior by Pavel Tsatsouline... and applying his “Grease the Groove” technique.
It is worth spending the time to learn how to do pull ups... your life could just depend on it!
