What A Bodyweight Calisthenics
Cardio Workout Can Do For You

by Coach Lomax

When most people think of a cardio workout, they think of some sort of steady paced, repetitive exercise such as jogging or biking.

After all, isn’t that what the fitness industry has taught us... the best results come from aerobic activity in your “target heart zone”.

Well not necessarily!

Have you ever felt that you were in pretty good shape because you can jog on the treadmill for 20 minutes with ease... only to quickly tire and become out of breath when performing some other activity?

You have to move some boxes, or climb some stairs, and it is only a matter of moments before your heart starts pounding and your breath becomes heavy.

The reason this happens is because your training is SPECIFIC.

Performing one activity over and over again will produce bodily changes that will enable you to do THAT activity more efficiently in the future.

This is why you might be able to peddle the exercise bike for 20 minutes... but other activities of sport, work and life tire you out.

Bodyweight Calisthenics
As A Cardio Workout?

The first thing you must do is reprogram yourself from believing only steady state aerobic exercise can give you a great cardio workout.

The fact is, anything you do that gets the heart and lung rates up can be a great cardio workout.

Yes, this includes bodyweight calisthenics and weight lifting.

Who hasn’t lifted something heavy and had there heart start pounding and there breathing increase?

A Bodyweight Calisthenics
Cardio Workout Is Better!

As I started earlier, your cardio workout is specific.

Therefore, which type of cardio workout would do more to improve your performance of everyday activities... riding a bike or running OR a full body calisthenics workout?

Bodyweight calisthenics affect every muscle in your body, can involve many different movement patterns and angles and when performed with intensity can provide an excellent cardio workout.

Since the movements of the bodyweight calisthenics more closely reflects everyday movements you encounter in sport, work and life... you not only will be improving heart and lung function, but your cardio workout will improve respiratory endurance under similar circumstance as you will actually be using your body.

Therefore, the bodyweight calisthenics cardio workout will provide cardiorespiratory improvements you can actually use.

Apart from being more effective, a bodyweight calisthenics cardio workout is not as boring as steady state aerobic exercise... a major plus for me!

So the next time your up for a cardio workout... why not try bodyweight calisthenics?

You’ll be amazed at how effective they are... and how much better they prepare you to live life to the fullest.
